April 15, 2013 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Edenton Steamers News Release
EDENTON, NC - The Edenton Steamers of the Coastal Plain League announce today the addition of two pitchers, Eric Peterson and Adam Bray, to this summer's roster.
Peterson comes to the teal and black as a sophomore from Temple University (PA) in the NCAA Division I Atlantic Ten Conference. The Bear, Del., native is the right-handed rotation ace for the Owls this spring and stands at 6-4, 185-pounds. He made 11 appearances last summer with the Southampton Breakers in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball league, including six starts. After pitching 48.2 innings with one save, a 3.88 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 74 strikeouts to 11 walks, he was named the number-five prospect in the ACBL by Baseball America and the number-four prospect by Perfect Game CrossChecker. Thus far for Temple he has made nine appearances with six starts and two complete games. In 49.1 innings on the hill, he has a 5-0 record with a 1.82 ERA, .73 WHIP, .162 batting average against, a .192 opponent slugging average and 49 strikeouts to only nine walks. Peterson is having one of the finest seasons of any college pitcher in the country after rolling a quality freshman spring into an excellent summer in 2012. He can attack hitters with movement by an upper 80s sinker and slider with good depth, which induces early, weak contact. Or he also has the ability to go the power route with a four-seam fastball in the low 90s and a sharper, chase breaking ball.
Also a sophomore, Bray takes the mound for South Dakota State University in the NCAA Division I Summit League. He is a 6-2, 210-pound right-handed weekend starter for the Jackrabbits this spring. He hails from Eden Prairie, Minn., and spent last summer with Top Speed in the Pacific West Baseball League. He made 11 appearances (all starts) and logged 59.1 innings, had a league-leading 8-1 record, 62 strikeouts, .94 WHIP and a 1.36 ERA. He added two complete games, 18 walks and at season's end was named the number-three prospect by Perfect Game CrossChecker and the PWBL Pitcher of the Year. In eight appearances, including six starts this spring for the 'rabbits, he has pitched 35.2 innings to the tune of a 4-1 record. He has struck out 29 batters to walking 11 and posted a 3.28 ERA and .061 opposition isolated slugging. Closing out his sophomore season, Bray is now a two-year weekend starter whose consistency has improved throughout the spring. He will look to maintain his groove down the stretch, heading into the summer campaign. Overall it is a tremendous package, combining mid-to-upper 80s fastball velocity with quality secondary stuff and the ability to command, pitch down and avoid barrels when he is on.ÃâÃÂ
