St. Louis Steamers News Release
ST. LOUIS - For the fourth straight week, the St. Louis Steamers have received some good news from the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). This afternoon, forward Joe Reiniger was named the MISL Offensive Player of the Week and Brett Phillips was awarded the MISL Goalkeeper of the Week. For Phillips, this is his second honor of the season.
Joe Reiniger, a Collinsville, IL native, was given the award after scoring a combined four goals and an assist in the Steamers wins over the Baltimore Blast (7-2) and the Chicago Storm (7-4). In the win over Chicago Sunday afternoon, Reiniger netted a hat trick (three goals) and added an assist on a goal by Sonny Naumoski in the third period, which tied the game. The Steamers never trailed for the rest of the contest. Reiniger also put one past Baltimore Blast goalkeeper, Sagu, in a win that put the Steamers all alone into second place. Reiniger leads the team in points (10) and is tied for the team lead in goals (6) with Naumoski and Shaun David.
Brett Phillips' performances in the St. Louis Steamers sweep of the Blast on Friday at Savvis Center and of host Chicago on Sunday earned the 36-year-old goalkeeper, his second MISL Goalkeeper of the Week award of the season. He was also awarded the Goalkeeper of the Week on Nov. 28. The Tampa, FL native began his playing career in 1992 with the Harrisburg Heat. He played in maybe his finest performance of the season on Friday night when he stopped 11 of the 13 shots he faced and only let up one goal in each half. Baltimore entered the game with a 7.0 goals per game average, which led the league at that point. Phillips also played all 60 minutes of the game against Chicago and stopped six of the ten shots faced. He is 4-2 with a 4.96 goals against average and a 62.8 save percentage.
The Steamers will go on the road for their next game in their first ever trip to Stockton Arena to face the California Cougars, who the Steamers have defeated twice so far this season. The Steamers next home game is on December 29 against the Chicago Storm at Savvis Center.
