
Steamers Late-Rally Falls Short vs. Sharks

Edenton, NC- The Edenton Steamers (1-1) score four runs in the ninth inning, but the team fell 7-5 to the Wilmington Sharks.
The Sharks (1-1) fell behind in the first inning after the Steamers' Anthony Maselli drove in a run on a groundout to the right side of the infield. However, the lead was a short one. Wilmington took the lead on a two-run homerun by Brian Parreira to make the score 2-1. The Sharks would get another run on a sacrifice fly to make the score 3-1.
Wilmington would then extend their lead after Riley Knudsen connected for a three-run shot out to left-center to make it 6-1.
After another sacrifice fly in the ninth inning to make it 7-1, the Steamers looked all but out of it. However, after a pitching change by Wilmington, The Steamers started to get something going. Jack Downum walked to begin the inning. Dominic Cuevas would continue the inning with an infield single. The Steamers would then load the bases after Connor Kopach was hit in the back.
Chris Ayers was hit by the next pitch to bring in the first run of the inning. After a past ball, Dominic Cuevas scored to make it 7-3. James Battley would bring home another run on an error by the Wilmington first baseman to make it 7-4. Chris Williams got in the act by bringing home another run on a sacrifice fly to make it a 7-5 game. After a pitching change made by the Sharks, the Steamers' James Battley was thrown out trying to steal third. Christian Stampler would then strike out for the final out of the ballgame.
Noah Michael (1-0) picked up the win for the Sharks, and Cayden Hatcher (0-1) took the loss for the Teal and Black.
The Clams will travel to take on the Morehead City Marlins Friday night at 7 p.m. You can listen to the game on the Edenton Steamers Baseball Network. Elijah Gonzalez will have the call. The pregame will start at 6:55 p.m.
