Steamers host Monterrey in February 12 'School Day' game

(St. Louis, Feb. 11, 2004) -- The Monterrey Fury visit the St. Louis Steamers in a Feb. 12, 10:35 a.m. "School-Day" game at The Family Arena. The Steamers rallied to defeat Monterrey 4-3 Dec. 13 in the only previous meeting of the season between the two MISL expansion teams.

The Steamers (7-14) are coming off a 6-2 victory over the San Diego Sockers Feb. 7 at The Family Arena. Sterling Wescott had four points (two goals, two assists) in the victory, and Mark Thomas (one goal, one assist), Sipho Sibiya (one goal, one assist), and Daryl Doran (one goal, one assist) further bolstered the offense. Steve Butcher, who recently was named to the USA roster for the Feb. 29 MISL All-Star Game in St. Louis, leads the Steamers in scoring with 20 goals and 12 assists.

Monterrey (6-16) trails Dallas by 7.0 games in the MISL Western Division. The Fury are led by reigning MISL Defender of the Year Genomi Martinez, who ranks third in the MISL in points (44 ) and blocks (45), and fourth in goals (24). Forward Marco Lopez is second in scoring for Monterrey with 16 goals and 21 assists.

Monterrey, like St. Louis, is in its first season in the revamped Major Indoor Soccer League. The Fury have a 4-10 road record this season, including a 5-3 win over Cleveland Feb. 6 at the Cleveland Convocation Center, and a 7-6 win at the Philadelphia KiXX Jan. 24.

All seats for the Feb. 12 game are priced at $5. Participating schools also receive a $50 "travel allowance/rebate" for every 40 tickets purchased. The Steamers next home game is Feb. 16 when they host San Diego in a Feb. 16 Presidents' Day game. Kickoff is 1:05 p.m. and a special raffle will be held for a chance to win autographed jerseys worn by Daryl Doran and the five starting field players during the game.
