Dallas Sidekicks at Milwaukee Wave

Milwaukee lost its first two home games of 2003-04 season last weekend. Still, the Sidekicks (3-7 on the road) will have their work cut out for them as they meet the Wave for the first time this season.
Monterrey Fury at Kansas City Comets
Kemper Arena, 7:35 p.m. CT
The Comets, winners of two big games last week, have defeated the Fury twice this season by a combined score of 15-10.
Baltimore Blast at San Diego Sockers
San Diego Sports Arena, 7:00 p.m. PT
The Sockers return home after a three-game road trip to meet the Eastern Division-leading Blast. Baltimore is one of three teams in the League with a winning road record. This will be the first match between these two clubs this season.

Dallas Sidekicks at Cleveland Force

This will be the third meeting this season between the Force and Dallas, with the series currently tied 1-1. The Sidekicks defeated Cleveland in their last meeting, winning 8-2 in Dallas on December 12.

Going into the game Milwaukee was 9-0 at home and 6-1 versus Central Division opponents. The Wave's lone divisional loss came against the Comets (an 8-6 defeat in Kansas City on January 16). The loss was Milwaukee's first in five games, and first of the season at home.

Antonio Sutton helped the Force come out of the gates strong with a goal 28 seconds in, marking the first and last time Cleveland would hold the lead. Cleveland netminder Jim Larkin faced 15 shots and made 10 saves, while Monterrey's Hector Mireles saved 21 of the 24 shots he faced.

Player-coach Don D'Ambra recorded a hat trick as the KiXX scored the first six goals of the game. Baltimore was held scoreless until David Bascome found the net with one second left in the second quarter. Peter Pappas faced 26 Baltimore shots and made 23 saves while his counterpart Scott Hileman stopped seven of 14.

Notes: Despite a four-goal performance from Martin Nash, the Sidekicks dropped to 3-7 on the road after a loss in Kansas City. Kansas City rallied from five goals down, then scored twice in the last 2:35 of the game to steal the win in front of 8,066 at Kemper Arena. Dino Delevski paced the Comets with three goals (including the game-winner with just under two minutes left) and an assist. Anthony Maher matched that effort with three goals and an assist of his own. Goalkeeper Chris Damico turned away 17 of 27 Dallas shots.

Notes: The KiXX won a hard fought battle to record only their second road win ever over the Milwaukee Wave on Sunday in front of 6,902 at U.S. Cellular Arena. Milwaukee's Leighton O'Brien equalized the game at 7:55 of the third period, but shortly thereafter Joel Shanker and Drew Kopp gave Philadelphia the lead for good. Peter Pappas turned in another strong performance in net, saving 22 of 26 shots. Dan Green of the Wave saved six of the 10 shots he faced.

Robbie Aristodemo's goal at 8:06 of the first knotted the score at 1-1, which was as close as the San Diego came â Fred DeGand restored the Force lead 19 seconds later. Cleveland ended the half with an offensive explosion, opening up a 6-2 lead with goals by Myles Stoddard at 13:29 and Adauto Neto 39 seconds before the buzzer. Larkin's 28 saves are also an MISL season best.

Notes: The KiXX remained the hottest team in the League with a 5-3 win over Cleveland in front of 10,153 fans at the Wachovia Spectrum on Wednesday morning. The win was the team's fifth in a row, moving them within one and one-half games of first-place Baltimore in the Eastern Division. Last week, the KiXX defeated Baltimore and Milwaukee, both division leaders, by a combined score of 14-7. Goran Vasic leads the team and is tied for sixth in the League with 37 points. He is also second with 27 assists. Don D'Ambra is third in the MISL with 27 goals and is 13th with 31 points. Entering play on Wednesday morning, goalkeeper Peter Pappas was third in the League with a 4.38 goals against average and tied for second with 14 wins. He also led the MISL in saves (304) and save percentage (.776). The KiXX play no more games this week.

Greg Howes still sits atop the League's scoring leaderboard with 54 points; he also leads the MISL with 32 goals, and is fourth with 22 assists. Todd Dusosky has assumed the team lead with 23 assists (third in the League), and ranks fifth with 39 points. Defender Lovelace Ackah is tied for fourth in the MISL with 42 blocks. Dan Green leads the League in goals against average (3.72) and is second with a .768 save percentage. Wave skipper Keith Tozer was officially named head coach of the MISL USA All-Star team on Monday; Tozer will make his eighth All-Star coaching appearance. The Wave entertains the Dallas Sidekicks this Saturday night.

San Diego returns home (where the club is 8-5 this season) on Saturday to host the Baltimore Blast, and then plays in St. Louis on Monday afternoon.

- John Bellanti, the former owner of the Buffalo Blizzard of the NPSL, passed away this past weekend after a battle with cancer. Under his guidance, the Blizzard established itself as an asset to the Buffalo community and stood as an exemplary franchise during its nine-year existence (1992-2001).
