Steamers Game Washed Away

June 10, 2013 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Edenton Steamers News Release

EDENTON, N.C- The Edenton Steamers (7-4) and the Wilmington Sharks (4-4) game at Historic Hicks Field on Monday night was postponed due to inclement weather in Edenton.

The city of Edenton took some early rain in the late morning before the sun finally came out for most of the afternoon giving the Steamers and Sharks a false sense of security regarding the game scheduled for tonight.

Around four pm the skies opened up again, making an absolute muddy mess of the third base and shortstop position. Despite the grounds crew in Edenton's best efforts the field was ruled unplayable, especially considering the forecast called for much more rain around the eight o'clock hour.

The game has been re-scheduled as part of a double header to be played in Wilmington on June 26th. This was chosen because tonight was the final time the Sharks came to Edenton in the first half of the season.

The rainout marks the first time the Steamers have been washed away this season. Edenton is back at it tomorrow night at Hicks Field; welcoming in the Gastonia Grizzlies, who were also postponed tonight, for the first time this season.
