July 16, 2013 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Edenton Steamers News Release

EDENTON, N.C - The Edenton Steamers (26-8, 6-2) and Fayetteville SwampDogs (17-12, 0-2) double header was lost due to heavy rain in Edenton on Tuesday night at Historic Hicks Field.

The scheduled double header was to make up for a game rained out on July 9th in Fayetteville and was to be the last time the two teams meet in the 2013 regular season.

Game one, originally scheduled for 6 p.m., was pushed back to a 7 p.m. start time due to an afternoon shower.

Around 6 p.m. another shower crossed over Historic Hicks Field, drenching an already saturated outfield. The tarp was pulled around 7:20 pm. And field work ensued but the after waiting until after 10 pm. The threat of more rain caused the cancellation of the double header altogether.

The games will not be made due to the fact that the SwampDogs and Steamers are not scheduled to meet again in the regular season. The Steamers are back in action on Thursday, July 18th at home against the Petersburg Generals. Prior to the start of the game on Thursday the Steamers will be presenting a 1,240.00 check to the Special Olympics, money raised in the last jersey auction.

For Fayetteville, it is the sixth rainout in seven days since the All-star break. The SwampDogs have not taken the field since July 6th against the Columbia Blowfish.
