Stealth Try-Out Camp Includes Local Prep Lacrosse Stars

November 12, 2012 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Washington Stealth News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - Two Puget Sound area high school lacrosse stand-outs will join six Washington Stealth draft picks at the National Lacrosse League team's first tryout camp of the season Saturday, Nov. 17 in Arlington, Wash. and Sunday, Nov. 18 in Everett, Wash.

Among the 43 camp invitees looking to earn a spot on the 2013 Stealth roster are O'Dea High School All-American Drew Snider (Seattle, Wash.) and Emerald Ridge High School All-State selection JT Tungsvik (Puyallup, Wash.). Snider, recognized as one of the greatest all-time field lacrosse players to come out of a western state, helped guide the University of Maryland to the NCAA Men's Division I championship game in each of the last two years. Tungsvik, who is currently attending Washington State University, led Puyallup to an appearance in the 2007 Washington lacrosse high school state championship game. Both are right-handed defense-transition players. Another local invitee, right-handed forward Trevor Yealy (Pittsburgh, Pa.), lives in the Everett community and is employed by the Boeing Everett plant.

"The Stealth organization is excited to have some of Washington state's top lacrosse players in camp," said Washington Stealth general manager Doug Locker. "It's a testament to the growth of the lacrosse in Washington that we have guys of the caliber of Drew and JT competing for a spot on their local professional team."

Six of the seven Stealth draft picks in 2012 will be in attendance including second round picks Tyler Garrison (Coquitlam, B.C.), Bill Hostrawser (Belwood, Ont.) and Justin Pychel (Welland, Ont.), third-round selection Tim Henderson (Tully,N.Y.) and fourth-round pick TJ Cowx (Delta, B.C.). All are defense/transition players. Sixth-round pick Kyle Buchanan (Nepean, Ont.), a right-handed forward, will also be in camp.

"This draft class is an outstanding group and we have been counting the days to see them on the floor together," said Locker. "It's rare to come out of a draft with all the guys we wanted going in. Every one of them has a good chance of making the final roster."

Five invitees have professional experience including goaltender Nick Patterson (Victoria, B.C.) who saw NLL action for Minnesota from 2005 - 11 and right-handed forward Shaun Dhaliwal (Richmond, B.C.), who played one NLL game for Colorado in 2010. Former Major League Lacrosse players include Snider, who played for Denver during the 2012 season along with right-handed forward Tom Palasek (Rocky Point, N.Y.) and left-handed defense/transition player Tim Henderson (Tully, N.Y.). Both saw action in 2012 for Long Island.

"Having a veteran goalie like Nick Patterson in camp is a testament to the strength of the league right now," added Locker. "Patterson's a proven winner at the professional level while players like Snider, Palasek and Henderson have tremendous experience at a high level both in college and at the MLL levels."

Five of the invitees have NCAA Division I experience; left-handed defense/transition, Mitch McMichael, who attended Cornell, Palasek, who played at both Syracuse and Johns Hopkins Universities, Yeal, who played at the University of Michigan and Snider who played at Maryland. Henderson is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. He is the only active duty U.S. military personnel vying for a spot on an NLL roster. Right handed defender Erik Krum (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) won three NCAA Division III championships at Salisbury State.

The Saturday, Nov. 17 sessions take place from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Soccer First Indoor Sports (19805 74th Ave. NE in Arlington, Wash.), while the Sunday, Nov. 18 session takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Comcast Arena (2000 Hewitt Ave. in Everett). All sessions are open to the public to watch and are free-of-charge.

This weekend's camp is the first of five pre-season training camps that will help select the 2013 roster for the Washington Stealth.

Other camp dates are December 1 in Arlington, Wash. (Soccer First Indoor Sports) and Dec. 2 in Everett, Wash. (Comcast Arena). December 8 and 9 in Langley, B.C. (Langley Events Center), December 15 and 16 in Everett, Wash. (Comcast Arena). The final training camp weekend takes place on December 29 and 30 also in Everett, Wash. (Comcast Arena).
