-SPIKES WELCOME IN VALLEYCATS: The State College Spikes face their Stedler Division foe, the Tri-City ValleyCats, tonight at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in the first game of a three-game series. State College is 2-1 so far this homestand. Tri-City leads the all-time series, 8-4, and has won four of the six games played in Happy Valley.
-LAST GAME: Zack Dodson allowed just one walk and no hits in his five-inning start, notching his second career pro win as the Spikes topped the Staten Island Yankees, 4-2. The victory clinched the first-ever series victory for State College over Staten Island. Dodson also struck out five, tying his season high. Adalberto Santos drove in a pair of runs for the Spikes, and Pat Irvine and Kelson Brown each collected a pair of hits.
-CAIN RISES TO OCCASION FOR SPIKES: Left-hander Colton Cain takes the ball for State College tonight. Cain is making his fourth start and sixth overall appearance. The Waxahachie, TX native is coming off a rough patch last time out, when he allowed six runs on five hits and three walks over two innings at Jamestown. Cain hasn't allowed a two-out hit this year.
-VALLEYCATS SEND BUCHANAN TO MOUND: Tri-City starts the series with right-hander Jake Buchanan on the hill. Buchanan has allowed just two earned runs in his last 16.2 innings, for an ERA of 1.08 in that span. The Gastonia, NC native was the Astros' tenth-round draft pick this year out of North Carolina State, where he went 8-6 with a 3.86 ERA in 2010.
-THREE SPIKES NAMED TO NYPL ALL-STAR TEAM: Three Spikes will represent the club in the New York-Penn League All-Star Game on August 17th at Staten Island. Infielder Matt Curry, outfielder Adalberto Santos and left-handed pitcher Jhonathan Ramos will all be on the National League squad at the game. Curry is currently in the top six in the NYPL in both batting average (6th, .331) and on-base percentage (3rd, .441).
