-SPIKES TAKE TWO-GAME EXCURSION: The State College Spikes enter the halfway mark of the season with a pair of contests against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers at Eastwood Field. The Scrappers swept the Spikes in a two-game on Tuesday and Wednesday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Mahoning Valley leads the all-time series, 23-19.

-LAST GAME: Backed by another stellar offensive performance by the Spikes, Tyler Waldron pitched six shutout innings as State College blanked Auburn, 7-0, last night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Waldron stretched his scoreless streak to 14 straight frames, scattering five hits. Matt Curry went 2-for-3 to extend his on-base streak to 21 games. Chase Lyles and Walker Gourley each knocked in a pair of runs for the Spikes.

-SADLER MAKES FIRST PRO START: Right-hander Casey Sadler goes to the hill for the Spikes tonight in his sixth overall appearance of the season. Sadler went two innings in a relief outing against the Scrappers on Wednesday. The Ripley, OK native was the 25th-round draft pick of the Pirates out of Western Oklahoma State, where he helped set a school record for team victories in 2010.

-KAMINSKY BACK ON THE MOUND FOR SCRAPPERS: Right-hander Alex Kaminsky faces the Spikes for the second time this week as he makes the start for Mahoning Valley. Kaminsky held the Spikes to just three hits and two walks in five scoreless innings on Tuesday to earn the win. The Fostoria, OH native is fifth in the New York-Penn League in ERA and tied for third in wins.

-STREAKING CURRY EARNS NYPL HONORS: Spikes infielder Matt Curry was named the NYPL Player of the Week for July 12-18. Curry has an 21-game on-base streak, and hit .571 (16-for-28) with 7 runs batted in over the period of time for which he won the award.
