-SPIKES RE-ENTER PINCKNEY PLAY TONIGHT: The State College Spikes continue a six-game road trip tonight as they face the Auburn Doubledays tonight, beginning a three-game series between the two teams at Falcon Park. Tonight's contest starts the Spikes' final stretch of 16 straight Pinckney Division games to end the 2011 regular season.
-LAST GAME: A two hour, 34 minute delay couldn't keep Matt Benedict from shining on the mound for the State College Spikes, but the Hudson Valley Renegades used two late rallies to edge past the Spikes, 6-4, in a game that ended early Saturday morning at Dutchess Stadium. The game did not start until 9:39 p.m. to allow for the field to be prepared after a severe thunderstorm passed through the area in the late afternoon. Despite the wait, Benedict provided a strong outing on the mound, allowing just one unearned run on four hits over five innings of work. The right-hander also set a new career high for strikeouts in a single game for the second straight start, fanning six Hudson Valley batters.
-HAFNER HITS MOUND FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Ryan Hafner gets the ball for State College tonight in his 12th appearance and 11th start of the season. Hafner's 2.83 ERA places him ninth in the New York-Penn League in that category. Last time out, the Pirates' 2010 17th-round draft pick allowed two runs on five hits while striking out one over five innings in a loss against Connecticut. Hafner last faced Auburn on July 5, taking the loss.
-DOUBLEDAY SEND HILL TO MOUND: Auburn right-hander Taylor Hill gets the ball for the Doubledays tonight in his seventh appearance and second start for the club in 2011. Hill made his first outing for Auburn on July 15 after leading Vanderbilt to the College World Series this year. The righty, drafted in the sixth round by the Nationals this year, has eight strikeouts over nine innings in his two starts this year.
