March 11, 2012 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
New Mexico Stars News Release

(Rio Rancho, NM) The anticipation for the matchup between the New Mexico Stars and the seasoned Allen Wranglers was at its highest just prior to kick-off at Santa Ana Star Center. Both teams were undefeated coming into the game and tied for the Intense Conference lead. The Stars were unable to overcome adversity as the lost control of the game in the second half. The Stars lost the game with a final score of 45-28.

After being intercepted on the first offensive possession, Quarterback Arkelon Hall settled into the offense and was able to lead two quick touchdown drives. The success of the Stars offense came to a halt after they lost starting center Ivan Hernandez to an apparent knee injury.

The Stars failed to capitalize in front of a sold out crowd of 6,243 and had many opportunities to turn the tide in their favor after scoring in the final minute of the first half. The Stars took a 22-17 lead into halftime but would never lead after that point.

Terrell Owens had much of the hype surrounding him all week leading up to the game as this was his first game on the road, Owens recorded 5 catches for 50 yards, and one touchdown, but the Stars defense was not star struck by his presence. On Owens' second reception he was hit into the boards and tumbled into the stands to the delight of the crowd. However, Owens was able to find the end zone when he made a spectacular one-handed touchdown catch just seconds into the second half, giving the Wranglers a 24-22 lead.

During the Stars first possession of the second half, Ivan Hernandez, the Stars starting Center, went down in severe pain and would eventually be carted off the field. The Stars Offense was not the same after the injury only recording one touchdown in the second half, and having trouble snapping the ball to Hall.

The Stars once again struggled in the kicking game missing two field goal attempts, an extra point, and having a field goal attempt blocked.

The Stars next game is scheduled for Friday, April 6 th at 7:05pm against the Tri-Cities Fever.
