New Mexico Stars News Release
RIO RANCHO, N.M.-Greg Rivara was announced as the New Mexico Stars kicker on Friday.
Rivara is the former punter for the University of New Mexico Lobos. He began his Lobo football career as a walk-on kicker. During his time at UNM, he worked his way up to become the team's main kicker. In the 2012 season, Rivara had the highest average in the Mountain West. He was also ranked 9th in NCAA Division I football nationally; kicking off 63 times, with an average of 63.6 yards per kick.
"Greg had a good career at UNM and we're happy to have him on our team. He is a quality kicker and individual, which is exactly what we need for the New Mexico Stars," Coach Bramante said.
Rivara said he feels honored and humbled to continue his football career with the New Mexico Stars.
"From the roster that Coach Bramante is putting together with other former UNM greats like Donavan Porterie, DeAndre Wright and Roland Bruno, you can expect great things," Rivara said. "I hope I can add the extra edge in special teams to help propel this team into success for this upcoming season."
