Cowlitz Black Bears News Release

Longview: June 10, 2012: With two big innings and effective pitching, the Portland Stars beat the Cowlitz Black Bears 3-1 Sunday night in front of 1,079 fans to snap a four-game Black Bears winning streak.

After Ryan McCarthy (Rice) faced the minimum number of hitters through two innings, he ran into trouble in the third, allowing three hits and a run. The Stars added two runs in the fourth as they bunched together four hits.

The bullpen was effective for the Black Bears, however. Brian McAfee (Cornell) held the Stars scoreless in his Black Bears debut and Cole Irvin (Oregon), Matt Pechmann (Mt. Hood CC), and Zev Egli (Mt. Hood CC) joined him in allowing no runs. The Black Bears received base hits from Drew Luther (Fullerton), Tyler Madrid (Santa Ana), and Cody Childs (Mt. Hood CC) in the loss.

The Black Bears next game is Monday, June 10 against the Corvallis Knights. It will be Kids Eat Free Night Presented By State Farm and in addition to eating for free, kids will get to run around the bases. Each child 12 and under receives a voucher for a hot dog, soda, and chips as they enter the ballpark. Also, Kids Club Members get in for FREE!
