Cowlitz Black Bears News Release

Longview: June 11, 2012: After leading 3-0 through six innings, the Black Bears were unable to hang on to the lead, eventually losing 5-4 as the Corvallis Knights mounted a spirited rally.

Jordyn Van Atta (Clark College) had an RBI single in the first and Brian Frattali (U of Portland) and Kyle Kuck (Santa Ana) added run-scoring hits of their own on a night in which the Black Bears registered 12 hits as a team. Corvallis came storming back though, scoring a pair of runs in both the seventh and eighth innings before delivering the game-winning run in the ninth.

The Black Bears scored their last run of the game in the seventh on a home run by Austin Diemer (Cal State Fullerton) who was making his Black Bears debut. Diemer was perfect at the plate, adding two singles and a walk to his homer. Felipe Perez (UCLA) made his debut on the mound and was very impressive, allowing only two runs in six and two thirds innings, striking out six.
