Elks Beat Sweets 9-6

The Bend Elks had a special start time on Monday as 4 Bend schools sent their students to catch some Bend Elks baseball, and they would be able to leave happy as the Bend Elks beat the Walla Walla Sweets by a score of 9-6.
The Sweets scored first off of Elks starter JR Bunda (2-1) in the top of the second inning as Sweets 3rd baseman Ben Ruff led off the inning with a double, and would come around to score on the RBI single from Marc Garza to give the Sweets the early 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second, the Elks bats began to come alive. Grant Newton reached on an error by Sweets shortstop Jared Jordan, and came around to score on an RBI double from Shawn O'Brien. That was followed by an RBI single from Logan Frandsen, making his Elks debut on Monday, giving the Elks the 2-1 lead.
The Elks would go on to score 2 in the fourth and 3 in the 5th inning, the highlight of the two innings being a 2 run single from Darian Ramage in the second and 3 consecutive RBI singles from Frandsen, Kyle Gallegos, and Jordan Copeland to give the Elks a 7-1 lead.
The Sweets would not go down without a fight however, as they went on to score 5 runs in the top of the 7th to cut the lead to 1. The Sweets batted around in the inning, sending 10 runners to the plate, and the inning ended with Spencer O'Neill grounding into a double play with the bases loaded.
The Elks added two insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th inning, capped by a perfectly executed squeeze by Steven Halcomb to bring Ramage home from 3rd to give the Elks the final 9-6 margin.
The Elks and Sweets play the final game of their series on the first $2 Tuesday of the year, first pitch at 6:35 p.m.
