September 17, 2004 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Los Angeles Aftershock News Release
Los Angeles, CA. Head Coach/GM Burrel Lee III of the ABA Los Angeles Stars professional basketball team today announced that they will hold their first open basketball tryouts on Thursday, October 7th and Friday, October 8th in Los Angeles. According to Lee, "We know that there are a lot of great players out there who don't get enough exposure. We are looking for diamonds in the rough and I think in LA there are many of them."
Players 18 and older are encouraged to showcase their talents at the tryouts and are asked to bring their own basketball equipment and a black and white reversible basketball jersey or black and white t-shirts. Registration fee is $80. Cashier's check or money orders payable to the Los Angeles Stars will be accepted as payment. Email Coach Lee at hoopologyhoops1@aol.com for a registration form. The registration form and check can be mailed to Burrel Lee III, Los Angeles Stars, P.O. Box 69A76, Los Angeles, CA 90069. For more information, call 323 971 9128.
Lee added, "We are also pleased to announce our first player - Roland Jones, a 6'2" guard from Central Methodist University. Last year, Roland played in Sweden's Top Division with the Sundevils. His wife is Delisha Milton-Jones of the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks and also a member of the 2004 Gold Medal winning USA Women's Basketball Team." Mrs. Jones commented, "I am excited to get the chance to see my husband play pro ball here in the US and even better, we are both playing in the City of Angels. I will be at every home game cheering on the Stars as they vie for the 2004-2005 ABA Championship. Roland added, "When Coach Lee called and asked if I would come in, I didn't hesitate to say yes."
