Minnesota United FC News Release
BLAINE, Minn. (June 15, 2010) - Warren Ukah's first two goals of the season helped carry the NSC Minnesota Stars to a 4-2 victory over the amateur Kansas City Athletics in the first round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.
Ukah's two first-half goals gave the Stars a lead they would never relinquish, but a 61st minute penalty kick by the Athletics' Stephen Hoffman set up a tense final half hour.
Simone Bracalello scored his first goal of the season to re-open the Stars' two-goal lead in the 71st minute, but the Athletics answered less than a minute later through a Kyle Perkins goal.
Neil Hlavaty's team-leading fourth goal of the season from a 75th minute penalty kick restored the Stars' two-goal cushion and put the result beyond doubt.
The Stars will play AC St. Louis in the second round next Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at NSC Stadium in Blaine.
