Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- Rockford IceHogs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Steve Martinson announced Friday the United Hockey League club has acquired Greg Barber from the Quad City Mallards for winger Chad Woollard. Barber, who has agreed to terms with the IceHogs, is expected to be in training camp when it commences on Monday.

The blockbuster trade features a pair of All-Stars. As a rookie during the 2003-04 season, Barber was an ECHL All-Star while playing for Martinson in San Diego, and was also selected to the ECHL All-Rookie Team. Last season, the 6-0, 200lb winger split time between Quad City and the Hershey Bears (AHL).

"This is a trade that should work out for both teams," said Martinson. "I had Greg in San Diego his rookie year and I am comfortable with him. I know what to expect from Greg and he's going to be one of our top players. He's one of those guys who is my prototypical player. He can play on the power play, finishes his checks and combines skill and hard work."

Barber had 13g-26-39pts last season with the Mallards, while skating in 45 contests. The Kelowna, British Columbia native also appeared in 24 games with Hershey. During his rookie campaign in San Diego, Barber accumulated 30g-46a-76pts in 71 games. Barber skated four-years at the University of Denver before turning pro in '03-04.

For the talented Barber, the Hogs had to give up Woollard who was a three-time All-Star in the Central Hockey League prior to signing on with Rockford over the summer. Last season, the 6-3 winger netted 40 goals for the Fort Worth Brahmas (CHL) and was the leading vote getter in the All-Star game. Woollard is the Brahmas all-time leader in games played, goals, points and game winning goals.
