The Calgary Stampeders will be battling to stay alive in the Canadian Football League playoff race on Friday night at McMahon Stadium as they play host to the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. MDT.

It's the rubber game of the 2023 season series as the longtime rivals split a pair of summer meetings. Saskatchewan was 29-26 winner in overtime at McMahon on June 24 while the Stampeders evened the score with a 33-31 victory at Regina's Mosaic Stadium on July 7.

The Stamps (4-11) trail the Roughriders (6-10) by four points for the third and final playoff position in the West Division. A Calgary victory would allow the Stamps to control their own destiny as they would retain a game in hand against Saskatchewan and would hold the season-series advantage in the event of a tie-breaker.

Both teams are looking to get back on the winning track as Calgary has dropped three in a row since a Labour Day Classic victory over the Edmonton Elks while Saskatchewan is in the midst of a five-game losing streak. Each team's most recent setback was against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats as the Stamps lost 22-15 in Steeltown before their Week 18 bye while the Riders were handed a 38-13 home-field loss by the Ticats on Saturday.

Calgary quarterback Jake Maier heads into Friday's contest 173 yards away from becoming the 10th player in franchise history to throw for 4,000 yards in a season.

The Stamps are 2-5 at home this season and 2-6 against the West Division. Saskatchewan is 2-6 on the road and 5-6 against the West.

The Stampeders will be wearing custom helmets that includes an Indigenous version of their running horse logo. The team previously wore the helmets as part of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 30 when the Stamps played in Hamilton but this is the first time the Indigenous logo will be featured for a game at McMahon.

Designed by Jacob Alexis, Richard Running Rabbit and Siksika Health Services CEO Dr. Tyler White, the basic concept for the special logo emulates the Contemporary Plains Style Traditional Art.

The helmet will also feature custom numbers and braid-style striping to honour the people and traditional use of the braid in the Indigenous communities.

Day of the Dino/Light Up the Night

Friday's contest features a celebration of the partnership between the Stampeders and the University of Calgary.

In addition, proceeds from the Stampeders Foundation RE/MAX 50/50 draw will benefit Dinos Athletics, Dinos student-athletes will be featured in various game-day activities.

There will also be a special joint performance by the U of C and Stampeders hype teams.

Ticket sales for the 50/50 draw are already under way and will close at 11 p.m. on Friday. More details are available at www.5050Stamps.com

Over the years, 50 Dinos have gone on to play for the Stamps including five members of the current roster for the Red and White - receiver Jalen Phlipot, offensive linemen Sean McEwen and Ryan Sceviour, defensive back Nick Statz and linebacker Charlie Moore.

Following the game, fans are invited to remain in their seats and enjoy the Light Up the Night fireworks display.

At halftime, minor football takes centre stage as the gridiron stars of the future will be in action.
