Stampede's Michalke commits to Air Force Academy

Sioux Falls, SD - The Sioux Falls Stampede are proud to announce that forward George Michalke (Mah-Kahl-Key) has committed to the United States Air Force Academy for the 2010-11 season. The veteran forward is one of seven returners for the Herd this season. The Parma, OH native posted 15 points (8g, 7a) and was a plus-11 in 44 games last season for the Stampede.

The Air Force Falcons had one of their best seasons in school history last year, going 28-11-2 and advancing to the NCAA East Regional Finals for the first time ever. It was there third straight trip to the NCAA tournament. The Air Force Academy is located in Colorado Springs, CO and the Falcons are members of the Atlantic Hockey Conference.

When Michalke joins Air Force next season he will become the third former Stampede player to play for the Falcons, Zach Sikich and Chris Wey also attended Air Force. Sikich, who played with the Stampede from 1999 to 2001, is in his first season as a goaltending coach for the Herd. Wey was a defenseman for the Stampede during 2002-03 season.

The Stampede kick off the pre-season next Tuesday, September 15th in Brookings against the Sioux City Musketeers at 7:05 PM. The Herd will also play in Brookings on Sunday, September 20th against the Fargo Force at 6:05 PM. Tickets for both games are $10 each and are on sale now at the Stampede office or through www.brookingsrangers.com. Net proceeds from both games will benefit the Brookings Ice Skating Association.
