Calgary Stampeders News Release

The Calgary Stampeders invite local media to McMahon Stadium on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at 8:45 a.m. for the CFL Canadian Draft.

The draft will be televised live on TSN, beginning at 9 a.m. Media is welcome to watch the draft at the Stamps' administration building and a light breakfast will be provided. Head coach/general manager John Hufnagel will be available for comment following the team's first selection and again following the completion of the draft.

The Stamps hold eight selections in the draft. As Grey Cup champions in 2008, the Stamps get the eighth pick in each of the six rounds. The Stamps currently have 12 players on the roster who were selected by Calgary in the CFL Canadian Draft:

2008 Dimitri Tsoumpas (first round, No. 2 overall) Jesse Newman (first, No. 3)

2007 Justin Phillips (first, No. 5) Jabari Arthur (first, No. 6)

2006 Jon Cornish (second, No. 13) Derek Armstrong (fifth, No. 38)

2003 Wes Lysack (first, No. 5) Marc Calixte (first, No. 7) Mike Labinjo (third, No. 25)

In addition, the Stamps expect to sign three of their 2008 draft picks before camp opens on June 6: Defensive end Fernand Kashama (second round, No. 16 overall), defensive lineman Ron Hilaire (fourth, No. 27) and offensive lineman Jon Gott (fifth, No. 35).
