Calgary Stampeders News Release
Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that import linebacker Malik Jackson has signed a contract extension with the club. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
¬ÅMalik has been a solid contributor on our defence over the past two seasons and I'm glad we were able to extend his contract, ¬Â said Hufnagel. ¬ÅHis great athleticism and speed allows him to play numerous positions for us on defence and also be a great asset on special teams. ¬Â
Jackson last season started all 18 regular-season games at outside linebacker for Calgary as well as the West final. He posted 61 tackles including a team-high six tackles for loss. Jackson recorded six sacks and added one interception, four pass knockdowns, seven special-teams tackles, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries, including his first career recovery touchdown - a 41-yard fumble return during the July 1 season-opener against Toronto. He also added an interception in the division final against Saskatchewan.
¬ÅI'm glad I could extend my stay in Calgary, ¬Â said Jackson. ¬ÅThis will be my third year here now and I'm looking forward to making this city my home for years to come. It's exciting to be back with the familiar faces we have in our locker-room and it's been a pleasure working with coaches like John Hufnagel and Chris Jones. I'm familiar with Jones' system and am looking forward to getting after it again next season. ¬Â
Jackson was named Calgary's most outstanding rookie nominee in 2009 and has suited up in 33 regular-season contests and three playoff games with the Red and White.
