Stampede Trades Heil to Madison Capitols

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Sioux Falls Stampede and Madison Capitols have agreed to a trade involving Stampede goaltender Caleb Heil. Heil will join the Capitols while the Stampede gains two draft picks and future considerations.

Heil, a 6-foot-1.7-inch goaltender out of Victoria, Minn., has been with the Stampede for two seasons. In the 2022-23 season, he joined the Herd for nine games, playing the majority of the season with the Sioux Falls Power, a Tier 1 Elite Hockey League program which shares the Scheels IcePlex with the Stampede. In his time with the Herd, Heil has tallied 28 appearances with 11 wins, 12 regulation losses and two overtime losses. He holds a save percentage of .870 with 97 goals against off 749 shots on his net.

The Capitols will also receive a ninth-round pick from the Stampede during the 2025 Phase I draft. In return, the Stampede gains a second-round pick in this year's Phase II draft, a third-round selection in the 2025 Phase I draft and future considerations.

This year's draft started on Monday afternoon with the Phase I Futures Draft, consisting of players born in 2008. The second Phase of the draft begins this morning and has 20 rounds scheduled but will go until every team fills their protected lists with players of any age, born 2004 to 2008.
