Herd Acquires Sam Spehar from Muskegon

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Sioux Falls Stampede has acquired forward Sam Spehar from the Muskegon Lumberjacks. The five-foot-nine-inch, 174-pound, right-handed forward is committed to the University of Denver.

Spehar, a 2007 forward from Chaska, Minn. joins the Herd after spending the 2023-2024 season between the Muskegon Lumberjacks and Sioux Falls Power. In his first season in the USHL, Spehar appeared in 11 games for the Lumberjacks and marked four assists. The rest of the season, Spehar spent his time with the Sioux Falls Power.

On the 16U AAA side of the Power's schedule, he appeared in 37 games, tallying 32 goals and 34 assists for 66 points. In Tier 1 Elite 16U play, Spehar appeared in 12 games with eight goals and six assists for 14 points. Adding onto the Tier 1 Elite season, he appeared in four playoff matches and marked eight points off two goals and six assists.

Prior to this season, Spehar spent his time between the Power's 16U program and the Minnesota Blades 15U AAA program. This season, Spehar has been considered a 4.5-star recruit and was the Denver Pioneers' first commitment of the 2007 draft class.

In exchange for Spehar, the Herd released affiliate Finn De St. Hubert to Muskegon as well as a pick from the second round of this year's Phase I draft and future considerations. In return, the Herd gains future considerations from the Lumberjacks, providing an opportunity to continue to grow the Herd's program.
