STAMPEDE UPDATE: The Stampede participated in the "Buc Bowl" in Des Moines, IA last weekend, taking two of three games.

The Herd started quick, scoring just 5:28 in on an unassisted goal by Tom Gorowsky. Minutes later, Justin White added an unassisted goal of his own to give the Stampede a 2-0 lead after one period. After a scoreless second period, Gorowsky started the third period by tallying his second goal of the game on the powerplay at 2:44. Greg Barrett went the distance in goal, stopping all 19 shots he faced, including a spectacular save on a 2-0 break for the Steel, to earn the shutout.

Friday, September 17th vs Indiana: Down 1-0 in the first period, Carroll notched his second goal of the weekend to tie the game at one. Indiana regained the lead early in the second period, but Jon Globke responded just a minute later when he took a pass from Justin White and beat the Indiana netminder to tie the game at two. Nick Deutz's goal at 14:39 of the second gave the lead back to the Ice, but Gorowsky tied the game at three and eventually sent it into a shootout at 16:31. In the shootout, the Stampede got goals from Andreas Nödl and Pat Mullen and outscored the Ice 2-0 to take the game 4-3. Kasey Moreland played the first two periods for the Stampede before John Murray stepped in to play a scoreless third period and shootout.

Saturday, September 18, 2004 vs Tri-City: In a back-and-forth game between West Division rivals, the Tri-City Storm defeated the Stampede 5-4 in a shootout. Trailing 2-0 after one period, the Stampede got on the board just 43 seconds into the second period on a powerplay goal by Justin Milo. Just minutes later, Brandon Harrington scored unassisted to tie the game at two. Tri-City regained the lead at 5:11 of the second period before Andrew Carroll beat Tri-City goaltender, Nick Hopper to tie the game at three with 57 seconds left in the period.
