Stampede Acquire Two Players and Draft Picks from Chicago

February 4, 2022 - United States Hockey League (USHL) - Sioux Falls Stampede News Release


Sioux Falls, SD - The Sioux Falls Stampede announced on Friday that they have made a trade with the Chicago Steel, acquiring two players and a draft pick. The Stampede receive forward Luke Levandowski and defenseman Austen May along with 1st round pick in the 2022 USHL Phase I Draft, a 4th round pick in the 2022 Phase I draft and a 1st round pick in the 2023 Phase II USHL Draft. In exchange, the Stampede send defenseman Cal Thomas, a 9th round selection in the 2022 Phase I Draft and a 4th round selection in the 2023 Phase II USHL Draft.

Levandowski is a 6-foot, 165-pound left-winger who has posted 9 points (6g, 3a) in 19 games with the Steel this season. The Rosemount, Min. native spent last season at Rosemount High School where he tallied 41 points (22g, 19a) in 21 games. In 2019-20, he recorded 49 points in 25 games. The 19-year-old has committed to the University Wisconsin for the 2023-24 season.

May, a right-handed defenseman, has appeared in 35 games this season with the Steel, tallying six points (1g, 5a) and a plus/minus rating of plus-11. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound native of Woohaven, Mich. spent last season with the Youngstown Phantoms where he tallied 16 points (2g, 14a) in 43 games. The 18-year-old has committed to play collegiate hockey at Providence College.

"We are excited to have Luke and Austen join our team," said Stampede General Manager and Head Coach Marty Murray. "They are both very skilled players that we feel can help our team this season. In addition, we were able to obtain some good draft picks for the future."

Thomas is headed to the University of Minnesota this fall and posted 16 points (4g, 12a) in 35 games this season for the Herd.

As a reminder, this weekend's home games against Omaha and Sioux City have been postponed due to a failure in the ice making plant at the PREMIER Center. The club is currently working with the teams to reschedule the games and will provide new dates soon.

The Stampede return to the ice on Tuesday, February 8th to visit Sioux City at 7:05 PM. The Herd's next home game is scheduled for Saturday, February 12th at 6:05 PM versus Des Moines.
