Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades president and general manager Craig Brush along with head coach Malcolm Cameron announced today that defenseman Brad Zanon has signed a contract for the 2009-10 season. Zanon becomes the second player to re-sign with the Everblades in just over a week.
The British Columbia native becomes the first blueliner to sign with the club for the 2009-10 season. In his rookie campaign, Zanon appeared in 64 games for the Everblades and scored two goals and 12 points while racking up 135 penalty minutes. He also suited up for 11 Kelly Cup playoff games in 2009 for the Everblades. In addition to that, the 6-foot-2, 203-pound defenseman received two promotions to the American Hockey League appearing in one game with Albany and three games for Milwaukee. Zanon was held scoreless in his AHL call-ups but did pick up a minor penalty.
Head coach Malcolm Cameron says he is happy to have Zanon back in a âBlades uniform, "Every time Brad Zanon steps onto the ice I know I am getting 100% maximum effort from him whether it be in practice or a game. He is a key contributor to our team with his physical play all over the ice."
After finishing a stellar collegiate career at the University of British Columbia from 2004-2008, Zanon made his pro debut last season with the Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL. He appeared in a total of 24 games in the regular season and playoffs in 2008 with Victoria chipping in three helpers and racked up 23 penalty minutes. The right-handed shooting d-man played in 137 games scored 28 goals and assisted on 56 others for a total of 84 points while adding 324 minutes in penalties in his collegiate career.
Zanon said he is happy to be back in an Everblades uniform for the upcoming season, "I really enjoyed my time in Florida last season. The fans were great to us on and off the ice and I look forward to achieving our goal of a Kelly Cup next year."
