Two more players agree to terms for '09-'10

June 24, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL) - Idaho Steelheads News Release

(Boise, ID) - Defenseman Matt Sorteberg and forward Matt Cook have agreed to terms with the Idaho Steelheads for the 2009-2010 season.

Both players were originally signed by the Steelheads late in the 2008-2009 season by head coach Derek Laxdal.

"We brought these two in late out of college and were impressed with what we saw," Laxdal said of the pair. "I'm anxious to see what these two kids can do over a whole season as professionals."

Laxdal didn't get to see much of Sorteberg in a Steelhead sweater because the 23-year-old only played a game and a half with Idaho. After joining the team from Quinnipiac University, Sorteberg suffered a season-ending injury in his second game with the club.

Cook, 22, joined Idaho for nine games down the stretch of the regular season. He netted his first professional goal for the Steelheads against Phoenix on March 31. In four years at Union College, the Belle Mead, NJ, native scored 34 goals.

Laxdal has found success before when bringing back late-season signings. Forward Greg Rallo and defenseman Kory Scoran-both signed out of college near the end of the 2005-2006 season-- are examples of college players signed late in a season that have gone on to productive tenures in a Steelheads uniform.

Sorteberg and Cook join forward Matt McKnight and defenseman Weston Tardy as players who have agreed to terms for the 2009-2010 season.

Season-ticket packages for the 2009-2010 season are available now, starting as low as $450 per seat for all 36 home games. Partial-season ticket packages are available for as little as $150. Contact the Steelheads front office at 208.383.0080 or visit for more information.
