Stallions Take Down Mohawks for Seventh Win in a Row

July 8, 2019 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL)
Saugerties Stallions News Release

A three-run home run by Hayden Travinski (LSU) lifted the Saugerties Stallions (14-9) over the Amsterdam Mohawks (17-5) 6-4 on Sunday night at Cantine Field.

The Stallions are the hottest team in the PGCBL, extending their win streak to a league-best seven games. The win is the Stallions' second in a row versus the Mohawks.

Austin Cole (Arizona Western) started the game for Saugerties. The righty pitched 5.0 innings, with 5 strikeouts, giving up three runs.

Amsterdam was first to get on the board as JD Mundy (Radford) hit a two-run homer to left field to give the Mohawks the early lead. However, the Stallions battled right back after a sacrifice fly from Dillion Lifrieri (Arkansas) put the Stallions within one.

After Cole pitched a scoreless fourth inning, Tyler Kelder (St. Bonaventure) tied the game up at two with a solo home run to left-center.

After the fourth, Mohawk starting pitcher Trip Lockhart's (Kentucky) day was over. He pitched 4.0 innings, giving up two runs with only one strikeout.

A couple wild pitches by Austin Cole allowed JD Mundy (Radford) and Johnny Decker (Stonybrook) to score for the Mohawks allowing them to regain the lead.

The sixth inning both teams elected to make a change at pitcher. For Saugerties, Danny Kapala (Minnesota) came in to replace Austin Cole. He only pitched that inning, allowing no runs and striking out one batter.

For the Mohawks, Travis Lane (Boston College),who pitched in the fifth inning, was replaced by Rye Gunter (Lousiana State). Gunter, who received the loss, pitched two innings and gave up three runs. All three of those runs came on the homerun from Louisiana State teammate Hayden Travinski.

Henry Funaro (UMASS Lowell) was able to earn the save pitching two innings and giving up no runs. The Stallions have an off day tomorrow followed by a road trip to Mohawk Valley.
