CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Clearwater Threshers (27-25) fell 14-4 to the St. Lucie Mets (28-24) on Friday night before a dazzling postgame fireworks display, part of the Independence Day Celebrations by Budweiser at BayCare Ballpark.
The Threshers' offense scattered nine hits among eight batters, led by 2B Kendall Simmons two hits and two walks. Clearwater starter Mick Abel (1-3) took the loss after 2.2 IP with four hits and four strikeouts. A total of six Threshers' pitchers faced the Mets with relievers Brenan Bell and Tyler Adams making scoreless appearances.
The Threshers and Mets return to the diamond for the second installment of the Independence Day Celebrations by Budweiser on Saturday night. Gates open at 5 p.m. for the 6:30 p.m. game with a patriotic fireworks show to follow.
