St. Louis Stunned Again

Quad City Riverhawks News Release


Davenport - The Quad City Riverhawks (18-6) and ranked #5 in the ABA professional basketball power rankings captured a fairly easy victory as they defeated the St. Louis Stunners (6-13) 107-80. The Riverhawks cruised to a 31-16 first quarter lead and never looked back as they defeated the Stunners on the night Chicago Bulls mascot "Benny the Bull" visited the Quad Cities. .

The Riverhawks capitalized on a couple of 3-D baskets in the first half to extend their lead. Tony Weeden led the Riverhawks in the first half with 19 and Ryan Edwards contributed 10 (17 for the game). Milan Pepper led the Stunners in the first half with 14 and finished with 20 and Katrel Green added 8 and finished with a team high 24. The Riverhawks had a comfortable lead heading into the locker room at half with a score of 61-36.

Weeden led the Riverhawks with 30 in just 3 quarters of playing time, and Corey Minnifield pulled down 8 rebounds. The momentum was on the Riverhawks side all night and they put on a show in the fourth quarter as they rolled to victory. The reserves played a key role in the Riverhawks victory, including the 13th man Rick McKenna who won a contest in the Quad City Times and saw his first professional action.

The Riverhawks next home game is February 23 against the Minnesota Ripkness. The Davenport Police Department will take on the Davenport Fire Department in a "Guns and Hoses" exhibition at half time.
