Texas Tycoons News Release
Fort Worth, TX - In their first appearance in Fort Worth this season, the Texas Tycoons tie the franchise record for wins in defeating the Waco Wranglers 147-130. A near capacity crowd in Fort Worth's Martin Luther King Center witnessed an offensive extraveganza featuring the top scoring team in the ABA this season. The Texas Tycoons based in Dallas call all of the metroplex home and the fans came out to show their support to DFW's home team.
Waco came out hungry to prove they can play with their fellow Texas rivals and newly acquired Rob Giesey (5'11 PG, 82, college: Lee) and Cortez Bond (6'6''-F/G-78, college: Northeastern ) did their part to keep Waco in the game, Giesey scoring 17 points to go with his 10 assists. Waco's all-star Reggie Griffin (6'4''-G-75, college: Louisiana Monroe ) was hitting from everywhere en route to his amazing performance hitting on 4 shots from beyond the arc and 15 of 19 from the field, going for 47. Jeffrey Sadler (6'3''-F-79, college: Dixie St. JC), Melvin Allen, Sheldon Denson (6'3''-G-81, college: Tyler J.C.) had 25, 17, and 10 respectively.
For Texas their all-star came up big too, Donnie Beacham (6'5''-F-81, college: Texas Arlington) was 12-16 from the field for 31 points to go with his 14 rebounds leading 6 Tycoons in double figures. The other Tycoons to join Beacham in the double digit category was Josh Gonner (6'2''-G-82, college: S.Carolina) with 29, Benny West (6'3''-G-82, agency: ProSportsCareers, college: Howard Payne) and Jerome Rogers (5'10''-G-81, college: N.Texas) both had 19 while Brandon Lee (6'3''-G, agency: ProSportsCareers, college: Tarleton St.) and Randall Williams (6'8''-C-82, college: Tarleton St. ) each had 15 in a high flying, high octane house shaker at the MLK. Texas will improve upon their league leading scoring average of 130 with the 147 they hung on Waco tonight. Final Score in the "Town of the Cow": Texas 147, Waco 130.
With the win, Texas has now equaled the franchise mark for victories in a season at 17. The 17-5 Tycoons will be hosting the Arkansas RiverCatz back at Dallas' Mountain View College on Thursday, February 8th. The team will be going for the franchise high mark with their 18th win in what will be an "ABA Money Game" against Kareem Reid and company. Tip-off on Thursday will be at 7pm.
