St. Louis Ambush News Release
St. Charles, MO - The St. Louis Ambush (4-4) visit the Milwaukee Wave (6-0) at 1:05 p.m. this Saturday, January 12 at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
The Wave are the only undefeated team in the Major Arena Soccer League and have a firm grip on first place in the South Central Division. The Ambush are in second place and looking to improve on their record to solidify a spot in the playoffs. The top two teams in each division earn a playoff berth.
This Saturday's game is somewhat of a David versus Goliath scenario for the Ambush because the Wave appear to be nearly invincible. Milwaukee won both games they played last weekend, despite being without the services of Max Ferdinand and Jonatan Santos on Friday, then winning again the next day without top scorer Ian Bennett and starting goalkeeper Josh Lemos. The Ambush are hoping to ride the momentum of a 5-4 win over Florida last Saturday. The last time the Wave and Ambush met was New Year's Eve, a game the Wave won 11-5.
Milwaukee's dangerous offense is led by Bennett (10 goals, three assists), Robert Renaud (seven goals, nine assists) and Ferdinand (three goals, seven assists). For St. Louis, scoring leader Zach Reget (nine goals, one assist) is joined by Justin Stinson (five goals, three assists) and Mario Marcos (five goals, two assists).
Ahead of Saturday's game, the Ambush also announced some roster moves, placing injured forward Jerjer Gibson on the inactive roster and adding veteran Stefan St. Louis and rookies Nic Powers and Eduardo Maia. Per league and team policies, terms of the agreements were not announced.
The 2018-19 season marks the eighth in professional indoor soccer for Stefan St. Louis. He has played with the Detroit Waza Flo (PASL), Missouri Comets (MISL and MASL) and Milwaukee Wave (MASL). Stefan appeared in 33 games with the Ambush during the 2014-15, 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons.
Midfielder Nic Powers is a hometown product who played high school soccer at Francis Howell Central, where he was team captain. His collegiate soccer career was split between William Woods University (one year), St. Charles Community College (one year) and Columbia University (two years). In his youth, Nic played for St. Louis Scott Gallagher where he won a state championship. When not playing, Powers coaches at Columbia College.
Defender Eduardo Maia is a native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil who came to the United States at the age of 21 and played three years of collegiate soccer at Missouri Baptist University. When not playing soccer, he coaches at Core Soccer Training and Vetta Sports.
Following Saturday's contest, the Ambush visit Independence to duel the Kansas City Comets on Friday, January 18 at 7:35 p.m. CT. The next Ambush home game is slated for Saturday, January 19 at 7:05 p.m. CT at the Family Arena when Utica City FC comes to town for the first time. For those unable to attend in person, all MASL games are webcast live at masl.tv.
