
St. Joe ties Saints for wild card, sweep St. Paul 8-3

ST. JOSEPH, MO- St. Joe (20-18, 46-40) completed a sweep of St. Paul (17-21, 46-40) in a sloppy affair to close the series, 8-3. The win pulls St. Joe into a tie with St. Paul for the North Division wild card with 10 games to play, and a series next week in St. Paul.
The Blacksnakes struck for the early lead when Jake Whitesides delivered a run scoring triple in the first and two-run single in the third for a 3-0 lead. St. Paul rallied to tie the game in the fifth before giving St. Joe the lead for good.
In the bottom of the fifth, St. Paul committed three errors, allowing two unearned runs to score giving the âSnakes a 5-3 lead that they would never relinquish. St. Joe added one in the seventh when Whitesides drove in his fourth run of the night with a base hit for a 6-3 lead and Ben Thomas plated two more with in the eighth for the 8-3 victory.
Thomas had four hits and scored four runs with two knocked in and Whitesides went 3-for-4 with a triple and four runs batted in.
Huguet (6-3) went six innings and allowed seven hits and three runs-one earned-for the series sweeping win.
The âSnakes get their last scheduled off-day Wednesday before beginning a six-game road trip with the first of three in Lincoln Thursday night. Mark Nussbeck (8-3) is scheduled to start for St. Joe. First pitch is 7:05pm and the webcast starts at 6:45pm at www.stjoeblacksnakes.com.
