Sioux Falls outlasted Sioux City in a slugfest in game one of the day-night two-state doubleheader. LF Chad Hermansen and C Jake Smith led the way for the Canaries as both they combined to go 6-for-10 with three runs scored and two RBI. Hermansen also chipped in with two doubles which brings him to 31 on the season. Lenny Bays picks up his second win for Sioux Falls as he tosses 2 2/3 innings allowing only three hits and a walk. Matt Montgomery pitches a scoreless ninth to notch his eighth save of the year. For the Explorers, LF Jorge Moreno led the way with a 4-for-5 outing with two runs scored and an RBI.

Sioux City 9, Sioux Falls 5 (Game 2)

Sioux City pounded out 12 hits as a team to manage a split with Sioux Falls in the doubleheader to pull within 4 1/2 games back in the North Division Wild Card Race. SS J.J. Burress led the Explorers at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI while DH Billy Keppinger had an even better night, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and three runs driven in. Sioux Falls 1B Bubba Smith did his best to keep the Canaries in the game, going 2-for-2, including two home runs, with three runs scored and three RBIs.

Coastal Bend got some early offense and a solid outing from starting pitcher Ricky Stover, who allowed two runs on four hits through seven innings of work to improve to 4-6 on the season. The victory for the Aviators improves their record to 19-16 in the second half, pulling them to within 4 1/2 games of South Division leader Fort Worth, who fell to Lincoln. CF Ryan Ruiz had a big game at the plate for Coastal Bend, going 3-for-4, including his first home run of the season, with two runs scored and two runs batted in.

Lincoln got a great start from Jeff Blitstein to improve to 27-12 in the second half. Blitstein allowed two runs on nine hits through eight innings of work to improve to 8-2 on the year. The Saltdogs got 11 hits in the game, led by CF Evan Tartaglia who was 3-for-5, including his 11th double, with two runs scored and three RBIs. C Kevin Sullivan also doubled, his 24th, in a 3-for-4 day in which he scored two runs. 3B Paul Powell contributed as well, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Pichi Balet was 1-for-5, with two RBIs in the game as well, giving him 125 hits on the season, which is the most in the American Association.

The Blacksnakes got an efficient outing from starting pitcher J.C. Huguet, who allowed one earned run on seven hits through seven innings of work to improve to 6-3 on the season. The victory for St. Joe improves them to 20-18 in the second half, but more importantly, it ties them with St. Paul for the North Division Wild Card. 3B Ben Thomas had a big game, going 4-for-5 with four runs scored and two RBIs while DH Jake Whitesides was 3-for-4 with four RBIs.
