St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release

ST. JOSEPH, MO- St. Joe (7-11, 33-33) used aggressiveness on the bases to lead to an 8-4 win over Sioux Falls (9-8, 25-40), ending a six-game losing streak. St. Joe rallied from a 4-1 deficit and J. C. Huguet and four relievers did not allow a run after the second inning in the win.

The Blacksnakes scored a run in the first on Mark Burke's RBI double, but the Canaries plated four against starter J.C. Huguet in the second for a 4-1 lead. The first five Canaries hitters reached, and they were aided by an error in the frame.

But the ‘Snakes got two right back in their second inning, using a leadoff walk to start the rally. But within 4-3, St. Joe had the bases loaded with no outs and could not tie the game.

Then they turned up the speed with two outs in the fourth. Scooter Jordan walked, and while stealing second base he advanced to third on an errant pickoff throw from pitcher Sean Donlin. Jordan then scored the tying run on a wild pitch tying the game at four apiece.

In the sixth, it was "small ball" again when Denver Kitch leadoff with a single and was sacrificed to second. Kitch then stole third and scored on Jordan's sacrifice fly to give St. Joe a 5-4 advantage.

In the top of the eighth things got interesting, but Jamie Tricoglou struck out Chad Hermansen to leave the bases loaded. The offense then padded the lead with three unearned runs in the bottom of the inning on Mark Burke's second double, a three-run hit making it 8-4.

Shingo Mitsumori (1-3) picked up his first professional win in relief, combining with three other relievers on three-hit shutout relief work over four innings. Burke led the offense with two doubles and four runs batted in.

St. Joe and Sioux Falls wrap up the series Tuesday night at 7:05pm. Mark Nussbeck (5-3) starts for the ‘Snakes against Robert Barrett (2-1) for the Canaries. St. Joe then has an off-day to travel to Texas to start a six game in eight day southern trip.
