St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release
ST. JOSEPH, MO- St. Joe (16-17, 42-39) held off the Lincoln Saltdogs (24-10, 55-27), 5-4. St. Joe's win snapped the Saltdogs' franchise-record 10-game winning streak and was directed by J.C. Huguet and former Saltdog Cory Harris.
Harris jumped on a Jeff Blitstein offering for his 13th home run of the season, and second with St. Joe, for a 1-0 lead in the fourth. Lincoln tied the game in the fifth on Bryan Warner's two-out single, but Harris threw out Evan Tartaglia at the plate to preserve the 1-1 tie.
In the home sixth inning, Scooter Jordan's one-out walk started the rally. After Jordan stole second, Ben Thomas doubled him in to give the âSnakes a 2-1 lead. St. Joe added a pair more in the inning when Harris stole home on a double steal and Jake Whitesides plated Cody Nowlin with a single for a 5-1 lead.
Huguet (5-3) allowed a solo home run to Casey Gordon in the seventh to cut the lead to 5-2, but did not let Lincoln get any closer through eight outstanding innings. The right-hander limited the potent Lincoln attack to just five hits and two runs in eight frames.
But in the ninth, the Blacksnakes committed a pair of errors and Jamie Tricoglou allowed a pair of hits before recording the final out with the potential tying run at third base for his 14th save.
St. Joe continues the first leg of the six-game homestand Friday night with Lincoln. Mark Nussbeck (8-3) will oppose Lincoln's Brian Rodaway (7-2). Game time is 7:05pm at Phil Welch Stadium and the gates open at 6pm. It's "Fireworks Friday" at the ballpark with a fireworks show to follow the game.
