Springfield Jr. Blues News Release
The time has come for the Jr. Blues to step up and take the game to the opponents. Still, the injuries keep coming as Randy Cure, and now, Wally Cossette and Denys Petrukhno have been added to the injured list. Wally is out with a hip flexor problem and Denys was diagnosed this week with a fractured collar bone. The year of unusual type and number of injuries keeps coming at the Jr. Blues, and even though it has been a tough time in Springfield, the good guys have never been truly out of very many games. Scoring has been difficult to come by, but the guys keep on playing good hockey. After taking one out of three games from the Wichita Falls Wildcats two weeks ago in Texas the Blues look at playing their best in front of a friendly home crowd.
The Springfield Jr. Blues came to play at the start of the game and quickly jumped out to a 2 - 0 lead. That lead held up throughout the first period as the good guys controlled the puck and skated hard. The first period belonged to the men in blue, white and gold. You could take that to the bank.
I spent much of the first period talking with my grandson, Matt Gadberry who is off and running wrestling for the Auburn, Illinois High School Trojans. At 9 - 1 in the second year of the program makes Grampa extremely proud!
The Jr. Blues defense played outstanding tonight as the vets were able to score twice more to make the score 4 - 0. With everyone playing well and the entire team playing well, the victory was assured by excellent play between the pipes by goalie, Andrew Martin. A victory is always nice, but a shutout by the goalie puts the icing on the cake. A strong game in all aspects by the Jr. Blues and a loss by the Texas Tornadoes in Topeka put the Jr. Blues back into a tie for third place in the Southern Division. Tomorrow night the same two teams meet at the "Nellie". Great hockey from the Springfield ice and we'll bring you our thoughts from the game.
