Marquette Rangers News Release
Alpena - Ever since the Marquette Rangers joined the North American Hockey League in 2006, the battles between the Rangers and the Alpena IceDiggers have almost always been close. Friday night at Northern Lights Arena in Alpena was no different, as the Rangers scored the lone goal of the third period to skate away with a 3 - 2 NAHL North Division win.
Hancock native and recent Michigan Tech recruit Tanner Kero scored twice for Marquette, including the game winner at 7:47 of the third period; with assists given to Andrew Kolb and Josh Bussell.
For Bussell (LaSalle, MI.) it was part of a three-point night as he scored in the first period and assisted on Kero's first goal of the night midway through the second period.
With the win, and Traverse City's 2 - 1 loss at Janesville, Marquette and T.C. are now tied atop the NAHL North Division.
Alpena (10 - 17, 20 pts. - 5th place NAHL North) received goals from Justin DeMartino and Joey Czekaj as the IceDiggers lost for only the second time in their last seven games.
Kevin Kissaw earned the win in net for Marquette stopping 25 of 27 IceDiggers attempts on the night, while Alpena goaltender Garrett Jenson was tagged with the loss making 31 saves on 34 Marquette shots.
The Rangers (17 - 9, 34pts. - tie 1st NAHL North) and the IceDiggers continue their three game series Saturday evening at 7:00 before Sunday's third and final game at 3:00.
All Rangers games are available with streaming video and audio from B2 Networks through the teams' website www.marquetterangers.com.
