Springfield Sliders News Release

Last Time Out: Sunday, the Sliders fell to the Hannibal Cavemen 8-4 at Robin Roberts Stadium. The Sliders fell behind early when the Cavemen picked up an unearned run in the first, but Springfield answered with two runs in the second to take the lead. Bryce Sablotny started for the Sliders but lasted only three innings after being hit on the shin by a line drive. The bullpen again struggled for the Sliders and it was T R Dunne who was hit the hardest, giving up five runs and eventually taking the loss. Michael Hurwitz drove in a run late in the game to improve his team leading RBI total to six, all of which came in the two games against Hannibal.

News and Notes:

Opposite Field Power...

3 of the 5 home runs hit by the Sliders so far this season have been to the opposite field. Matt Tellor's home run came to left field while the switch hitting first basemen was hitting left-handed. Both of Michael Hurwitz's home runs Saturday night came to the opposite field as well. The switch hitting shortstop hit one from each side of the plate in route to taking over the team lead in home runs (2) and RBIs (6).

Defense Still Shaky...

After making 3 errors on Sunday against Hannibal, the Sliders have now committed last least 3 errors in 5 straight games. Through 6 games, they have committed a total of 26 errors.

Bergren a Welcome Addition...

Sliders' OF Jake Bergren went hitless in his first game of the year on Friday, but had 4 hits and 2 RBIs in the weekend series against Hannibal. Bergren has also given the Sliders more defensive flexibility and has started games in both RF and CF.

Today's Pitching Matchup...

RHP Adam Peters starts for the Sliders after a very good debut outing last Wednesday against Dubois County. Peters went 5.2 innings against the Bombers and gave up just one earned run while striking out six. Unfortunately, the Sliders got shutout that day and he picked up the loss.
