Sliders' Comeback Falls Short Against Gems
June 5, 2012 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Springfield Sliders News Release
The Springfield Sliders fell behind early, but nearly came back to snap the Quincy Gems' five game winning streak this afternoon before falling just short, 7-6. The Gems picked up two runs in each of the first two innings to go up 4-0 before David Kerian came around to score the Sliders' first run in the third. Quincy would pick up three more runs in the fifth to chase Springfield starter Adam Peters, and increase their lead to 7-1. The Sliders' bats then woke up in the late innings, picking up a pair of runs in the sixth and two more in the eighth on a seeing-eye single from David Kerian. The Sliders scored one more run in the ninth inning on an RBI single by Jake Bergren and put the tying and winning runs on base, before Sean Gerber struck out to end the game. The Sliders fall to 1-6 on the season and Quincy improves to 6-1. These two teams will meet again tomorrow night at 6:35 at Robin Roberts Stadium.
The Springfield Sliders are members of the Prospect League, playing at historic Robin Roberts Stadium. The Sliders are members of the Western Division along with the Danville (IL) Dans, DuBois County (IN) Bombers, Hannibal (MO) Cavemen, Quincy (IL) Gems, and Terre Haute (IN) Rex.
