Springfield Jr. Blues News Release

With playoffs right around the corner, the Springfield Jr. Blues are gearing up to play their best hockey of this season. If you missed last Saturday and Sunday's games you missed the best hockey played this season by the young men in Gold, White and Blue! If they continue to play up to their talent level like they did last weekend I guarantee they will make playoffs uncomfortable for whomever they play. Saturday and Sunday's games (although the good guys took it on the chin Sunday) were fun to watch, easy to call on b2 and a great time for Jr. Blues fans and family.

Both teams (Jr. Blues and the Jets) are in this year's playoffs and I think they will both get beyond the first round. Whatever the results they both will be fun and exciting to watch, not matter how far they both go, so the best of luck and good wishes to the teams, their respective fans and the people who make them both successful in Junior A Hockey.

Janesville scored early and that was the only goal of the first period. The Jr. Blues had some problems with the Jets defense, but continued their new fore checking advance in tonight's game. While the Jr. Blues haven't broken out of their scoring slump, we know it's just a matter of time and this would be a good time to snap out of it. Let's Go Blues!

Again, the Jets scored early in Period 2 to take a 2 - 0 lead. The Jr. Blues came storming back to score two goals of their own to tie and then a third goal to take the lead, but the Jets wouldn't be denied in the third and final periodwith a little help. Late in the third Springfield was whistled for two quick penalties that gave the Jets a 5 on 3 advantage. A valiant defensive effort kept them out of the net through most of the penalty kill, but Janesville scored to tie. Neither team was able to score in overtime, so it was on to a shootout. These overtime games are making it difficult on an old guy like me, but the Jr. Blues prevailed to take a 4 - 3 win tonight. It was a well played game by both teams and you really hated to see either team come out on the losing end. We're glad it was the Jets tonight, though

And who will forget Brian Prost's celebration after scoring in the shootout, with his ceremonious slide right past the Jet's bench. The Wizard didn't score in the shootout, but the grin on his face and the little shuffle as he came back to the bench was a sight to see. The guys are definitely gearing up for the playoffs. If you haven't been to a Jr. Blues game at the Nellie for awhile, and if there is any way to join us on Saturday night, you don't want to miss the resurgence of "our team". They are fun to watch!
