Wenatchee Wild News Release
SOLDOTNA, Alaska - The Wenatchee Wild, playing on the road for the first time since Jan. 16, scored two unanswered third-period goals Friday night en route to a 5-3 victory over the Kenai River Brown Bears. It was Wenatchee's second straight win and its eighth win in its last 10 games.
Wild forward Jeff Jubinville (Edmonton, AB) scored the first goal of the game a little over five minutes into the first period on a slick pass from Dajon Mingo (Canton, Mich.) during a 2-on-1 break. It was Jubinville's 26th goal and 50th point of the season. Brown Bears forward Matthew Cinader forced a 1-1 tie at the 7:40 mark when he put a rebound past Wild goaltender Brendan Jensen (El Granada, Calif.). The Wild went back on top, 2-1, 66 seconds later when Alex McLean (Duluth, Minn.) tapped in a power-play goal from right in front of the Kenai River goal. Jubinville and Mingo assisted.
Adam McKenzie (Petaluma, Calif.) increased the Wild's lead to 3-1 eight minutes into the second frame when he tipped in McLean's shot from the blue line on the power play. Nathan Sliwinski (Castle Rock, Col.) also assisted. However, the Brown Bears went into the locker room for the second intermission with the game tied, 3-3, thanks to a pair of goals by center Johan Skinnars, who scored a breakaway goal at 8:30 and a power-play goal with 50 seconds remaining in the second period.
Brandon Burrell (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) scored the game-winner for the Wild 75 seconds into the third period when he went coast-to-coast and wristed a top shelf shot past Kenai River goalie Josh Benton. Shawn Pauly (Bellingham, Wash.) added a fifth goal to the Wild's total on his power-play marker with 29 seconds remaining in the contest. Both third-period goals were unassisted.
Jensen stopped 24-of-27 shots for his ninth win of the season. Benton turned aside 35 of the Wild's 40 shots. Wenatchee went 3-for-4 on the man-advantage while Kenai River was limited to one power-play goal on five opportunities.
The Wild will try to sweep the Brown Bears tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. (AKST).
