March 9, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Dayton Gems News Release
DAYTON, OH - The Dayton Gems are proud to announce that the high school hockey teams from Springboro and Centerville will be having a shootout during the first intermission of the Gems game against Evansville on March 17.
Both teams were each ranked in the state throughout the hockey season.
The season was especially sweet for Springboro. This was the first year the Panthers won a SWOHSHL Title. Springboro won the league title by defeating Centerville 4-3.
During the post season, Springboro was ranked fourth and Centerville sixth in the Columbus District of the Ohio High School Athletic Association State Tournament.
Both the Panthers and the Elks were knocked out of post season on Feb. 19. Centerville was defeated 5-1 by Cincinnati Sycamore while Springboro lost a close 3-2 match to Cincinnati St. Xavier.
The shootout on March 17 will be the first time the two teams have faced each other since the SWOHSHL finals.
This will be the second time this season the Gems have held a shootout between two area teams. On Feb. 17, the Gems hosted the club ice hockey teams from the University of Dayton and Wright State.
The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Gems for the 2010-11 season.
