
Bees Fall 4-1 in Kids Day Matinee to Arizona

Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
HIDALGO, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (23-29-6) fell to the Arizona Sundogs (23-27-9) by a 4-1 scored on the Bees eighth annual Kids Day game in front of a capacity 5,550 crowd of children from across the Valley.
The Kids Day game was made possible thanks to South Texas College, Kidiatric Therapy, Burkett Dentistry and the Valley Town Crier.
South Texas College has an enrollment of approximately 30,000 college credit students with five campuses serving Hidalgo and Starr counties - the Pecan, Technology, and Nursing and Allied Health campuses in McAllen.Mid-Valley Campus in Weslaco and Starr County Campus in Rio Grande City.
Kidiatric's Mission is to improve the lives of the children it serves by offering a team approach with strong family involvement in a setting specifically designed for KIDS.
Arizona scored the only two goals of the first period as Matt Frick and Joey Sides each found the back of the net. Frick scored the first goal at 4:55 of the first driving to the net from the top of the circles and beating Pagliero five-hole.
Joey Sides would double the Sundogs lead at 16:39 of the first with a rebound goal. Pagliero made the initial save on Sides who moved the loose puck around Pagliero's pad to the back of the net.
After one period of play the 'Dogs were outshooting the Killer Bees by a 13-10 mark.
The Arizona Sundogs would increase their lead in the second period as Joey Sides scored his second goal of the game. Sides received a pass from Kyle Hood on the blue line and came in on Pagliero. Sides drove across the top of the crease and backhanded a shot past Pagliero.
The Bees did put lots of rubber in on Michel Robinson with 16 shots on net in the second period alone but Robinson made each save to preserve the lead.
In the third period the Arizona Sundgos would strike once against as Brett Blatchford scored his first professional goal one touching a pass from Adam Smyth. The goal came at just 1:33 of the third period.
The Bees would avoid the shutout as Aaron Lewicki scored a power-play goal at 17:33 after Mark Kolanos was ejected for spearing. Picking up assists were Tomas Klempa and Darcy Campbell. The Bees would put a few more shots in on net but Michel Robinson was up to the challenge making 31 saves during the early game.
The Killer Bees return to action this Friday against the Arizona Sundogs once again and on Saturday against the Missouri Mavericks, tickets are available by calling 843-PUCK (7825) or visiting killerbeehockey.com.
