Frederick Keys News Release
The Keys walked six Kinston Indians and hit three more but still shutout the Indians 3-0 behind a seven inning two hit performance by starter Chorye Spoone (9-9). Kinston left ten men on base in the contest.
It was all about Spoone though. The Keys bonafide ace struck out ten batters, many in clutch spots to preserve the shutout and narrow lead. The ten strikeouts is just the third time this year a Keys pitcher has reached the lofty total. Spoone struck out a season high eleven batters June 25th at Potomac.
The Keys took the lead when DH Jake Duncan scored on a Pete Maestrales sacrifice fly in the second inning. They would add on with two men out in the sixth inning when 1B Mark Fleisher singled down the left field line plating two Keys to extend the lead to 3-0.
Reliever Jason Burch entered and shut the door stranding two men on base in the eighth inning before retiring the Indians in the ninth for his third save and second in four nights.
The Keys now head to Myrtle Beach to take on the Pelicans in their final series away from home in the 2007 regular season. Game one is Tuesday, August 28th at 7:00 p.m. with coverage starting at 6:45 p.m. on frederickkeys.com.
The Keys finish their home regular season schedule this weekend at Harry Grove Stadium. Saturday, September 1st against Winston-Salem the Keys will have a doubleheader starting at 4:30 p.m. A Super Fireworks Show will follow game two.
