WINDSOR, ON. The Spitfires were on the right side of a wild game in Windsor; defeating the visiting Firebirds by a score of 6-5 in overtime.

In the first period, all was going well for the Spitfires they had early powerplay opportunities and converted on both of them to gain a 2-0 lead. Goals were scored by Harrison and Christopoulos just a minute and a half apart. Just four and a half minutes later Flint would score to make it a 2-1 game. Exactly a minute after that, the Spitfires Captain Maggio scored his 42nd of the year on a scramble in the Flint zone. Just 12 seconds went by before Flint would score to make it a 3-2 game. Heading into the intermission the Firebirds had a 10-6 shot lead.

In the second period, the Firebirds were looking for the game tying goal. They found with less than a minute to play in the period to tie the game at 3. That would be the lone goal of the period. Flint had a 25-14 shot advantage.

In the third period, the Firebirds came out with a renewed energy. They scored just over a minute into the period to take their first lead of the game 4-3. The Spitfires would respond 6 minutes late on the powerplay to tie the game at 4. It was Harrison's 2nd of the night, the lone assist went to Dionicio. Just 5 minutes later, the Spitfires would score again to take a 5-4 lead with Christopoulos's 2nd of the night and 37th of the season. Late in the game the Spitfires were on a powerplay but appeared to be gassed and Flint would score shorthanded to tie the game at 5 with a minute and a half remaining. We were headed to overtime.

In the overtime frame, both teams had a great chance each and both goalies stood tall. With just 2 minutes to go, there was a bad change by the Firebirds with the puck near their bench. Maggio picked up the puck and fed Harrison for a breakaway and he made no mistake going 5 hole to win the game for the Spitfires and his hat-trick goal.

The Spitfires won their 8th straight.

The Spitfires are back in action on Saturday when the Mississauga Steelheads come to town. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
