Spitfires Win 3-2 over the Greyhounds in OT Thriller

The Spitfires won 3-2 in dramatic fashion on home ice in front 3852 fans Thanksgiving Monday.

In the first period, both teams were held scoreless as Costanzo and Ivanov played extremely well. the Spitfires had 12 shots and the Soo had 6. The Spitfires had a lot of chances but the Soo netminder made some miraculous saves.

In the second period, the Spitfires came out with a lot of speed and got rewarded scoring just 17 seconds in. Maggio passed the puck across the ice to Miedema who slid the puck back door to Maillet who scored five-hole for his 2nd of the season. Halfway through the period the Soo would score on the powerplay to tie the game at 1. The SOO had a 21-20 shot lead after 40 minutes of play.

In the third period, just over 5 minutes in, Maggio would explode off the Spits bench and race down the ice for the loose puck. He picked it up and scored top-shelf for his 2nd of the season to give the Spitfires a 2-1 lead. Halfway through the third period, the Soo would score again on the powerplay to tie the game. In the dying minutes the Spitfires were hemmed into their own zone but a few crucial blocked shots sent this one to OT.

In the overtime period, the Spitfires were too eager to get on the ice and got a too many men call sending them to the PK. The Spitfires PK was phenomenal, blocking shots and killing it off. Maggio then drew a penalty with hard work in their Soo zone sending the Spitfires to a powerplay. Cristoforo got the puck to Maggio and his shot was blocked in front of the net as his stick broke, and the puck landed on Christopoulos's stick who buried it for the OT winner! Spitfires improved to 3-0-1 on the season and Costanzo recorded his first as a Spitfire.

The Spitfires are back in action as they travel to Sarnia on Friday the 14th for a 7:05pm puck drop. And then on Saturday make their way to Owen Sound for a 7:30pm game.
