
Spitfires Soar over Troops, Win 6-3

The Spitfires racked up the scoreboard and never looked back, taking a convincing win 6-3 on home ice Thursday.
In the first period, it took just under three minutes for the Spitfires to take the lead. Renwick scored his 2nd on the season off an offensive zone faceoff, Maggio and Maillet had the assists on the goal. Just five minutes later, the Spitfires would double their lead. Maillet tapped the puck from the corner to the front of the net and newcomer Thomas Johnston roofed it for his first as a Spitfire. The Spitfires led 2-0 after 20 minutes and had a 12-7 shot lead.
In the second period, the scoring continued for the Spitfires. Greentree scored his 2nd of the season to make it 3-0 just 2:41 into the period. Morneau and Cristoforo had assists on the goal. Just less than seven minutes later, Colton Smith scored his 5th on the year from Peer and Christopoulos to make it 4-0. Just 23 seconds later North Bay would score to make it 4-1. Just 36 seconds after that, Christopoulos answered on the powerplay to make it 5-1. Smith and Abraham had assists on the goal. In the final 4 seconds of the period, the Spitfires were sent to a powerplay and Maggio scored to beat with buzzer with 1.6 seconds left off the faceoff win from Abraham. The Spitfires were up 6-1 after 40 minutes.
In the third period, the Battalion would score two goals with one being on the powerplay to make it a 6-3 game. The Spitfires then shut it down and took home the win and another 2 points.
The Spitfires are back in action on the road in Niagara on Friday night at 7:00pm and Saturday night in Erie also at 7:00pm.
